Fotona Laser Treatments for Skin Lesions:

Fotona lasers, including Erbium YAG and Nd:YAG, are commonly used in dermatology to treat skin lesions by using specific wavelengths of light to target and treat these growths. Here’s how each type of laser works:

1. Erbium YAG (Er:YAG) Laser:

The Erbium YAG laser is known for its precision in targeting the outer layers of the skin. It is highly effective for ablating superficial skin lesions and providing skin resurfacing.

  • How it works: The Erbium YAG laser emits light absorbed by water in the skin. This causes rapid vaporization of the tissue with minimal thermal damage to surrounding areas. It can gently ablate raised lesions, such as seborrheic keratosis, superficial warts, and skin tags.

  • Benefits: It’s especially effective for treating benign lesions on the surface, like moles, warts, and sun-damaged skin. The precision reduces the risk of scarring.

2. Nd:YAG (Neodymium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet) Laser:

The Nd:YAG laser operates at a deeper wavelength (1064 nm) than the Erbium YAG, allowing it to penetrate deeper into the skin. It is commonly used for treatments requiring deeper tissue penetration, including removing deeper lesions and controlling vascular issues.

  • How it works: Nd:YAG laser energy is absorbed by pigment and hemoglobin (blood), making it highly effective for treating vascular lesions (like broken capillaries or angiomas) and some pigmented lesions. It can also be used to coagulate deeper tissues to remove keloids or hypertrophic scars.

  • Benefits: This laser is great for reducing the appearance of deeper lesions, shrinking larger moles, and treating vascular lesions. It helps with coagulation, leading to minimal bleeding and faster healing.

How These Lasers Help Ablate, Remove, or Diffuse Lesions:

  1. Ablation: Both the Erbium YAG and Nd:YAG lasers can ablate tissue, meaning they remove the affected skin layers. The Erbium YAG is particularly useful for superficial lesions, whereas Nd:YAG can be used for both superficial and deeper lesions.

  2. Removal of Lesions: The lasers vaporize or coagulate the tissue of the raised lesion, causing it to slough off or be absorbed by the body. This is effective for benign lesions like warts, seborrheic keratosis, and skin tags.

  3. Diffusion and Diffuse Treatments: The Nd:YAG laser can diffuse light energy deeper into the skin, making it ideal for treating vascular issues (like spider veins and angiomas) and for stimulating collagen remodeling in scars, which may help to reduce the appearance of hypertrophic scars or keloids.

  4. Minimal Scarring: Both lasers have the advantage of reducing the likelihood of scarring compared to traditional surgical methods, especially the Erbium YAG, which minimizes thermal damage to surrounding tissue.

Fotona’s Erbium YAG and Nd:YAG lasers are highly effective in treating various types of raised skin lesions by ablating, removing, or diffusing the targeted tissue. The Erbium YAG laser is ideal for surface-level lesions, while the Nd:YAG laser is better suited for deeper and vascular lesions. These lasers offer precision, minimal downtime, and a lower risk of scarring compared to more invasive procedures.
